Replicator theory of coevolution of genes and memes
نویسنده
چکیده
A simple replication theory of coevolution of genes and memes is proposed. A population composed of couples of genes and memes, the so-called m-genes, is postulated as a subject of Darwinian evolution. Three different types of operations over m-genes are introduced: Replication (an m-gene is replicated with mutations onto an offspring m-gene), interaction (a memetic transfer from a donor to an acceptor), and extinction (an m-gene is eliminated). Computer simulations of the present model allow us to identify different mechanisms of gene and meme coevolutions.

On Meme-Gene Coevolution
In this article we examine the effects of the emergence of a new replicator, memes, on the evolution of a pre-existing replicator, genes. Using a version of the NKCS model we examine the effects of increasing the rate of meme evolution in relation to the rate of gene evolution, for various degrees of interdependence between the two replicators. That is, the effects of memes' (suggested) more ra...
متن کاملEvolution and Memes: the Human Brain as a Selective Imitation Device
The meme is an evolutionary replicator, defined as information copied from person to person by imitation. I suggest that taking memes into account may provide a better understanding of human evolution in the following way. Memes appeared in human evolution when our ancestors became capable of imitation. From this time on two replicators, memes and genes, coevolved. Successful memes changed the ...

Dedicated to the memory of Prof. Jaroslav Koutecký, founder of Czech and Slovak quantum chemistry. His personal and professional contacts with Slovak chemists in the sixties initiated the formation of small groups of young quantum chemists. These groups, islands of positive deviations in theoretically oriented chemistry, were latterly almost all transformed into serious scientific laboratories,...

Imitation is a powerful means of spreading culture teaching people to speak languages, children to play, and surgeons to operate. The basic unit of imitation is a replicator called meme which, like genes, carries and spreads information. The concepts of memes and the science of memetics were introduced by biologist Richard Dawkins in 1976. Since then, memes have been found everywhere, used to e...
متن کاملDynamic Categorization of Semantics of Fashion Language: A Memetic Approach
Categories are not invariant. This paper attempts to explore the dynamic nature of semantic category, in particular, that of fashion language, based on the cognitive theory of Dawkins’ memetics, a new theory of cultural evolution. Semantic attributes of linguistic memes decrease or proliferate in replication and spreading, which involves a dynamic development of semantic category. More specific...
